This residential high-rise has topped Charleston’s streetscape for decades. Even today the 204-foot-tall Dockside Condominiums stands out: It is the second highest structure in the city behind St. Matthews Lutheran Church.Built in 1975 before stiffer height restrictions, the building has 18 stories and 142 units.

Home savings can be gauged a few ways. There's the purchase price, expenses such as the power bill and remodeling to fix what you don’t like. According to builder KB Home, buyers can save in all three of these categories in its offerings at Waterside Landing in Summerville. The national company is constructing at least 36 homes in the neighborhood, off Dorchester Road.

They are the real estate elite for 2009, at least as chosen by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. The association recently tapped 172 brokers in the tri-county area for its Realtor of Distinction awards. The annual award goes to the top producing agents.

Consider this: spacious surroundings, water views, central location – all for less than $1,500 a month. If that sounds like a good sales pitch for a home, that’s half right. It is indeed a home off Liberty Hall Road in Goose Creek. But in this case, the house is for lease. Let’s face it, East Cooper has a high price tag, especially for working-class individuals and families. Finding a new residence in Mount Pleasant for less than $200,000 can be difficult. But it's not out of the question, according to national builder D.R. Horton. It is constructing 28 townhomes on Park West Boulevard that in some cases beat – albeit just barely – the $200,000 figure. The dwellings are priced from $199,900 to $244,000. The neighborhood, Mansfield at Park West, has attracted interest and a few buyers since sales started in November.
