March 4, 201 Listening to this somehow brought to mind what happened to Black families during the suburbanization movement from the 50`s through the 80`s... When the home values dropped out from under them due to white flight, it was their fault for not getting out. Now when this kind of thing happens to a demographic of what we identify as upstanding, hard working citizens it`s an issue... The language we use about these kinds of things is extremely telling. 5

March 4, 201 − Being a current homeowner and a home renter in the past, I can see both sides of the renter vs homeowner argument that was touched on in this piece. It`s tough when you have a family and can`t afford to buy a home. Rather than squeeze into an apartment, renting a home in a nice neighborhood was the better option for us. It also gave us the flexibility to move on when better job opportunities in other parts of the country presented themselves. A neighborhood of settled families is wonderful, but the profiled homeowner was perhaps being a little unfair in his disappointment the rest of the neighborhood didn`t conform to his dreams.
